Yoga for Healing

Yoga for Healing is a specialized trauma-informed program designed to offer a safe and supportive environment for individuals who have experienced trauma. Through this program, trauma survivors are provided with an opportunity to reconnect with their bodies, cultivate a sense of presence and awareness, and explore the transformative power of mindfulness. The guided trauma-informed yoga practices and meditations are carefully structured to help participants:

  1. Find peace and healing through yoga practice

  2. Establish safety and stability in the body

  3. Build skills and positive coping strategies for managing painful experiences

  4. Build a strong and supportive community of peers

  5. Regain power and control through mindful movements and reconnection to the body

What is trauma-informed yoga?

Trauma-informed yoga emphasizes safety, trust, and choice, making the practice accessible for trauma survivors. It focuses on embodiment within poses, helping individuals connect to their mind and body securely. Teachers provide tools for inward awareness, diverse experiences, and inclusive language to promote healing in a safe environment.

Trauma-informed yoga aims to help survivors integrate disconnected and challenging aspects of themselves, allowing them to gradually build an integrated whole. By offering multiple pathways to healing and incorporating the mind, body, and spirit into treatment, we allow survivors to heal using their innate resources.

Yoga offers a powerful way for survivors to embark on their healing journey. It goes beyond verbal communication, fostering positive outcomes and tangible skills, boosting neuroplasticity. Studies show that it helps manage psychosomatic symptoms and enhances overall health, well-being, and resilience.

Programming

Mindful Method

The Yoga as Healing classes are available in 5-week series, 8-week series, or drop-in formats. Sliding scales and scholarships are offered to increase accessibility.

These classes focus on intentional theming, including education about the nervous system, the chakra energy systems, and future care. The aim is to practice presence and connect to the breath to facilitate healing on and off the yoga mat.

Additionally, the classes incorporate guided activities such as debriefing exercises, journaling, sound healing, and art therapy, providing clients with a safe and supported environment to build authentic connections with others.

Holistic Approach

This program focuses on self-acceptance and provides survivors with tangible benefits that will become noticeable throughout their practice. This gradual integration can be transformational and healing for survivors. This program offers the opportunity for survivors to:

  1. Find peace and healing through yoga practice.

  2. Help individuals move their bodies comfortably.

  3. Foster self-connection, trust, and stronger relationships.

  4. Establish body safety and stability.

  5. Develop coping skills for managing painful experiences.

  6. Cultivate a supportive peer community.

  7. Regain power and control through mindful movements.

  8. Access additional resources when ready, using the program as a safe entry point.
